AST SpaceMobile and Vodafone Forge European Satellite Alliance
Vodafone Group Plc and AST SpaceMobile have unveiled a strategic partnership to develop a Europe-centric satellite constellation, targeting direct smartphone connectivity. The joint venture will anchor its operational hub in Germany, with Munich and Hannover under consideration for the command center. Services are slated to launch in 2026, encompassing broadband, emergency response, and disaster relief capabilities across the continent.
The satellite-to-phone sector shows explosive potential, with projections exceeding $10 billion by 2033. Twenty-one EU nations have already expressed interest in the service, signaling strong institutional demand. AST SpaceMobile's current fleet of six satellites will expand to 60 by 2026, though it remains dwarfed by SpaceX's Starlink network of 8,000+ units.
Market reaction was muted as AST SpaceMobile shares dipped 7.25% to $65.28 ahead of November earnings. The decline extends a 13.33% monthly slide, reflecting investor caution despite the Vodafone partnership's long-term potential.
